Karthi, Dulquer Salmaan a Hindu Brahmin boy, and Riya, Malavika Mohanan a Christian girl, elope one early morning to Ooty, fearing that their elders would not accept their inter-religious relationship and a union across castes. They return to their respective homes a few days later, after a heated clash, and each tries to convince their family that they hate one another and vows never to see each other again. But their fathers, sensing immaturity and ego at play, plot to reunite them, believing that the rift is a temporary phase that can be overcome. Riya’s father is a friend of Karthi’s father, which adds a layer of family history and shared loyalties to the tension. Riya’s family, [without Riya], visit Karthi’s home and invite them to Riya’s marriage, setting the stage for a drama that tests loyalties and the bonds between two households.

Meanwhile, both Riya and Karthi join the same company to work, and the professional friction between them triggers new personal consequences. Due to losses in the company caused by Riya, she is expelled from her job, a setback that strains their already fragile connection. Soon after, Karthi meets Riya again, and the two openly express their love for each other, deciding to elope again, this time planning to do so on a houseboat. However, their renewed plans are thwarted when they are caught by their fathers, who step in to protect the family honor and steer the course of the young couple’s future.

In a pivotal moment, Karthi’s father hands them a marriage invitation that reads “Riya and Karthik,” symbolizing the reconciliation of two families and a hopeful, if uncertain, path forward. The story closes with a tender sequence in which they thank and hug their fathers, followed by the pair walking home together, united and hopeful about their shared future.
