Partly Cloudy 2009

A whimsical short that explains where storks get their babies: high above the world, cloud people shape infant animals from vapor. Gus, a solitary, insecure grey cloud, excels at sculpting “dangerous” creations—crocodiles, porcupines, rams and more—each a work of art. His faithful stork partner, Peck, must deliver these lively, sometimes hazardous, bundles to Earth, coping with increasingly rambunctious cargo and Gus’s fiery temperament while keeping the deliveries safe and on time.

All day long, cheerful clouds in the sky churn out cute and cuddly babies — human boys and girls, kittens, puppies, and other creatures — and hand them to the delivery stork named Peck, Tony Fucile, for the journey to their waiting parents. But one lonely gray cloud named Gus, Tony Fucile, carries a different mission: to craft beings that are endearing but not too cuddly.

Peck’s deliveries are never without a challenge: he endures bites and bumps from the creatures and rough handling from the wild arc of sky traffic—bitten by a crocodile, butted by a bighorn sheep, and pricked by a porcupine. When his next assignment turns out to be a baby shark, fear tightens his wings and he flies away.

Feeling rejected, despondent, and angry, Gus unleashes a brief thunderstorm and cries as rain pours from below him. Peck returns soon after, equipped with a football helmet and shoulder pads, a kit fashioned for him by another cloud (a hint dropped earlier when that same cloud created a baby who would grow to love football). Gus instantly cheers up and proposes a new delivery: an electric eel to be sent down the line, which shocks the recipient even with the protective gear; this time, though, Peck remains in good spirits, if a little frazzled.
