What Is Paradise View About?
The premise of Paradise View without spoilers.
Go Takamine’s debut theatrical feature, shot almost entirely in Okinawan dialect, depicts a small island community on the cusp of Japan’s re‑assertion of sovereignty. It follows preparations for a wedding between a local girl and a Japanese teacher, while Reishu, a former US‑base employee, idles catching snakes, playing with ants, and ultimately gets the bride‑to‑be pregnant. The leisurely‑paced film blends Okinawan folklore with Haruomi Hosono’s spare, evocative score, subtly reflecting the island’s history of occupation and lingering dislocation.
