Pundarika Ranganathudu is a follower of Krishna, but for the wrong reasons, and he regularly ignores the guidance of his father and his mother. He copies the mischievous acts associated with Krishna during his reign, letting impulse steer his choices instead of heedful consideration. When his family members urge him to marry, he decisively leaves his village behind. After his family conducts a yagnam, he makes his way back to their home, though the journey is colored by the same restlessness that marked his earlier behavior.

In the neighboring village, Lakshmi is an ardent devotee of Krishna, living with a quiet, steady faith that contrasts with Pundarika’s impulsive nature. One night, Krishna appears in her dreams and asks her to marry Pundarika, a vision that sets a new, unexpected path in motion. Lakshmi’s father then approaches Pundarika with the proposal, but he initially refuses the match. Yet love and conviction begin to sway him, and after some gentle persuasion from Lakshmi, he agrees to the marriage, stepping into a life that will challenge his vanity and test his devotion.

Meanwhile, a dancer named Amrutha arrives in their village, and Pundarika is instantly captivated by her beauty. He finds himself drawn into a relationship with Amrutha, to whom he offers all the gold in his house as a testament to his fervor. However, this romance does not endure; after the marriage, he ceases to visit Amrutha, leaving her to face the consequences of his shifting loyalties. Amrutha’s mother, faced with her daughter’s situation, invites Pundarika to share a meal and serves Kala Kuta Rasayana, a potion of danger that dramatically alters his temper. The preparation makes him violent at the slightest sound and compels him to seize wealth that is not his, steering his life toward a fall from grace.

This reckless turn of events lands Pundarika in an unfamiliar place, where a confrontation with a saint escalates into a curse that reshapes his fate.
