Sakhavu Kochaniyan, a steadfast leftist, led a bold protest during the Emergency and helped found the SFY party at Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam. However, betrayal from a comrade seals his fate and he is killed by the police, his last breath echoing a rallying cry:
Inquilab Zindabad!
Years later, in the mid-2000s, the college is steered by KSQ activists Roopesh, Roopesh Peethambaran and Shiyaz, Kalabhavan Shajon, along with their fellow activists. Paul, a student from Thrissur, comes to the campus to study and quickly forms bonds with Subhash, Joby, and Krishnan, while he begins to fall for Anu, Gayathri Suresh. Subhash, an ideologue who has long despised KSQ leadership and their abuse of power, hatches a plan to reintroduce the SFY into college politics before the next election, hoping to recruit Paul and others into his fold. Krishnan, Manu from Irinjalakuda, is a strong presence but not fully absorbed in the left-wing creed. A skirmish arises between Subhash’s group and a faction led by KSQ activist Kanjan, Jino John, but the clash is contained without major harm.
Meanwhile, Paul confesses to Anu, Gayathri Suresh, that he loves her; she tells him, as a joke, that she loves him back, leaving Paul to mistake friendship for romance. At a local Kalotsavam, Roopesh and his faction curate the participants but reject a girl who wants to compete in four events. Subhash steps in and signs the girl up for Kalotsavam without Roopesh or others noticing. The girl ends up winning, but Roopesh maneuvers to have her join his group and claims all the credit.
