One Day: Justice Delivered 2019

Justice Omprakash Tyagi [Anupam Kher] is enjoying a quiet post-retirement life with his family in Ranchi, Jharkhand. The calm is shattered when two high-profile doctors, Ajay Chopra [Murali Sharma] and Reena Chopra [Deepshika Nagpal], vanish soon after the wedding of Tyagi’s daughter. The case lands on the desk of ACP Satya Narayan Sharma [Kumud Mishra], a sharp investigator who struggles to find any clue, navigating a maze of dead ends and political pressure. The mood shifts as another affluent hotelier, Pankaj Singh [Rajesh Sharma], disappears while returning from Kolkata, expanding the mystery and the sense that these disappearances may be connected.

As the investigation stalls under political and media scrutiny, the baton is handed to the crime branch led by DCP Laxmi Rathi [Esha Gupta], who must juggle delicate power dynamics while trying to keep the truth from slipping away. Soon, two more people vanish: Dilawar Khan, who works for MP Pravin Rawat, and a car mechanic named Afzal Ahmed. The police begin to see a pattern linking the missing individuals, a thread that could unravel a far more sinister scheme. Afzal’s possible motive appears tied to a bomb planted in a vegetable market, carried out on Dilawar’s instructions, with money allegedly routed through Pankaj under the guise of charity. Abdul, a key eyewitness, survives, while a minority party leader tries to weaponize the case for political gain, complicating the pursuit of facts.

As the investigation deepens, Dr. Ajay and Dr. Reena, who were treating Abdul, become entangled in a bribery scheme to silence him—killing him in a manner that looks natural. In a separate and provocative turn, a leaked MMS involving a honeymooning couple at Pankaj’s hotel targets his family, a maneuver designed to tarnish him due to his familial ties to the local political sphere. MP Rawat is revealed to be the orchestrator behind much of the turmoil, and Rathi is instructed to monitor both Rawat and Tyagi, especially since Tyagi had bailed them out with insufficient evidence. The tension rises as Rawat goes missing and Sharma’s role in abducting the others comes to light.

Tyagi’s grand exposure unfolds when he admits to the motive: he wanted confessions from the suspected criminals, not to kill them outright. Rathi hints that she already had clues about their guilt. In a dramatic confrontation, Tyagi and Sharma depart after delivering confession videos to Rathi, who then takes drastic action by killing the kidnapped suspects and arresting Rawat, who eventually confesses to his criminal acts. The aftermath fuels a clash between media narratives and police statements: the media reports that the bodies are found alongside video confessions, while the police insist the investigation is still ongoing to determine who is truly responsible for meting out punishment to these culprits. The film leaves audiences with a chilling question about justice, accountability, and the true price of sealing the truth.
