Against this backdrop, the death of Peter Leigh’s wife, Bea, brushes a personal tragedy into a larger, unsettled world. When USIC executive Vivian Hades reaches out, she brings with her a stark request: Peter is contacted through a video call by David Morgan, the co-owner and founder of a distant desert colony, who begs him to come. The invitation arrives with a weighty sense of urgency, and Peter—a chaplain by training—faces a dilemma about his own purpose in a place that already feels like it’s teetering on the edge of collapse.

Peter travels to the colony on the arid world, and his arrival is met with suspicion. The crew is unsure how a spiritual guide could be of use in a place where survival hinges on grit and science, and the initial reception hints at deeper tensions beneath the surface. As Peter begins to understand the colonial mission, he learns that several deadly accidents have struck the settlers. Meanwhile, the desert itself tests the colony in more intimate ways. Sara Keller heads out for a morning jog and experiences a vision of a daughter who remains on Earth, calling to her from the dunes.
