What Is Night Work About?

Willie, an assistant window‑dresser and the store’s lowest‑ranked “Fired Man,” is summoned whenever a customer demands someone be let go. After a brief dismissal he’s rehired, but unintentionally adopting a four‑year‑old orphan for ten dollars a week drives his meager income into crisis. With help from Mary, a young nurse, Willie slowly steadies his life despite setbacks.
