Nganu is a troubled farmer living in a remote village in Cameroon, sharing his life with his wife Meukeuna and their young son Kum. With a heavy burden from a violently painful past, his anger is a constant shadow, and he frequently directs his rage at his loved ones, blaming them for the misfortunes that haunt him. The memories of an abusive father and the long-suffering experiences of his mother linger in his mind, fueling a cycle of fear, control, and aggression that threads through his days. The weight of these memories makes his home life tense and fragile, and the family bears the strain of his volatile temperament.

When Meukeuna becomes pregnant, Nganu’s paranoia intensifies. He lashes out with accusations of infidelity, and his suspicion that Kum might not be his biological son only deepens the hostility he directs at his wife and child. Neighbors notice the growing danger and suggest a path that might offer him a new sense of purpose: joining the army. Reluctantly, he enlists, and his world begins to open in new ways as he meets a strict but fair officer, Captain Bello, who recognizes a potential beneath Nganu’s rough exterior. In the military, he forms tentative bonds with fellow soldiers, including Nabil and Ko-C, who share their own stories and struggles, giving Nganu a framework to see himself differently and to begin mending some of the hurt he has caused.

These new relationships slowly coax Nganu toward a fragile personal growth and a sense of remorse for his past actions. Yet the brutal violence and atrocities he witnesses in the army stir up old traumas, reigniting the aggression he thought he could leave behind. The news of his wife’s childbirth amplifies his fixation on paternity and fidelity, turning his inner turmoil into a dangerous obsession. The war within him grows louder, and his patience with himself and with others wears thin.

Ultimately, Nganu deserts the army and returns to his village armed and unstable, unable to trust the truths he once sought. He confronts Meukeuna and Kum, demanding a straight answer about who the father is and warning that any lies will have dire consequences. The confrontation escalates into a dramatic showdown, a crucible that will determine the fate of Nganu and his family. Throughout this turbulent journey, the story traces a man haunted by the past, seeking meaning, relief, and control, while those around him struggle to find safety in the shadow of his unravelling violence.
