Naai Sekar Returns 2022

In 1989, at the God Bairava temple, Natrajan, his wife, and his mother-in-law visit to request a child, hoping the divine will grant them a new life. A storm drives a solitary saint seeking shelter into the temple, and after they offer prasad, the sage declares that their misfortunes will be turned around. He gifts them a dog, claiming it is no ordinary animal and that its powers will both solve their problems and bring wealth. True to the prophecy, the wife becomes pregnant with a boy, and the family’s lorry business begins to prosper as money flows in. They name the dog Bhairavar, and the tale of luck tied to one canine begins.

In the present day, Naai Sekar is a small-time criminal who makes money by kidnapping the dogs of the rich and demanding ransoms. During a job to abduct a well-heeled dog, he mistakenly seizes the dog of a local crime lord, and the ransom money he pockets from Dass blinds him to the coming trouble. When Dass’s henchmen close in, they beat Sekar and his crew, forcing them to rethink their plan. The escape route they dream of—fleeing to Kerala—hangs by a thread as Sekar’s grandmother sternly rebukes him and reminds him of his family’s checkered past, urging him to find a safer path.

To understand the roots of this family’s fate, the backstory unfolds: soon after Sekar was born, his family hires a servant named Meganathan, known as Max, to care for Bhairavar. Max swipes the dog after learning about its fortune from a drunk Natrajan. Losing Bhairavar plunges the family into hardship—Sekar’s mother dies, and Natarajan vanishes while searching for the dog. Driven by desperation, Sekar travels to Lala Palace in Hyderabad to reclaim Bhairavar. There, he discovers that Max is seeking a blind man to marry his sister Bobby, and Sekar cleverly pretends to be blind to gain entry and steal the prized dog.

Inside the palace, a grisly scene unfolds: Sekar witnesses Max murdering his girlfriend Gora. He endures a series of tests Max sets before him, and by proving himself, he earns Max’s grudging approval. The plan then shifts toward a wedding set for Friday, and Sekar negotiates the invitation list, including two close friends whom he trusts.

Back in the present, Dass is released from the hospital and learns that Sekar has slipped away to Hyderabad. In a daring turn, Sekar kidnaps Max’s dog, nicknamed “Jackie,” and is on the verge of escaping when Max intercepts him. Sekar calmly asserts that Jackie is Bhairavar and that he has come to reclaim his rightful possession. A tense standoff follows: Max pulls a gun, but Bhairavar bites Max’s hand, giving Sekar the opening to seize the weapon and shoot Max in the very spot where Dass lies his fate. As Max’s henchmen close in, a police officer named Arumugam arrives to arrest Sekar, but Sekar outmaneuvers him by exposing the crimes of Dass and Max, ensuring their arrest. After the dramatic confrontation, Sekar is finally reunited with Bhairavar, and the two ride away from Lala Palace, stepping into an uncertain but hopeful future together.
