My Hero Academia: You're Next offers a visually striking experience that largely satisfies existing fans while exposing notable narrative weaknesses. Reviewers commend the fluid animation, dynamic fight choreography, and a soundtrack that heightens emotional beats, especially in the climactic battle. Conversely, the plot is described as predictable and overcrowded, with pacing that often stalls and a villain lacking clear motivation. Overall, the film provides solid entertainment for the franchise's audience but may not retain lasting appeal beyond dedicated fans.
The Movie Echo Score Breakdown for My Hero Academia: You're Next
Art & Craft
In terms of animation and visual craftsmanship, the film excels with fluid battle sequences and a polished aesthetic. Critics note the style feels familiar rather than groundbreaking, yet the dynamic choreography and consistent quality across frames receive consistent praise. The production design supports the action without distracting flaws. Consequently, the visual execution stands as a clear strength of the movie.
Character & Emotion
When assessing character work, the core cast delivers nuanced interactions that resonate emotionally, particularly between Deku, Bakugo, and Shoto. New characters, however, receive limited development, and the antagonist's motivations appear underexplored. Some viewers feel Deku's growth from previous arcs is muted. Overall, character moments are effective but uneven, resulting in a moderate appraisal.
Story & Flow
The narrative structure presents a familiar formula with a new villain that adds initial intrigue, yet the storyline becomes cluttered and predictable. Pacing issues arise from frequent flashbacks and an oversaturated plot that stretches thin. Critics describe the film as filler, and several reviewers highlight a lack of cohesive progression. These factors collectively lower the story's overall effectiveness.
Sensory Experience
Sensory elements shine through a robust soundtrack by Yuki Hayashi, which reinforces dramatic tension and thematic motifs. Sound design and visual style maintain a high level of energy, especially during the final battle. While some sequences are noted as visually tame, the overall auditory and visual experience is compelling and contributes significantly to audience immersion.
Rewatch Factor
The film's replay value hinges on its action set pieces and fan‑service moments, which encourage repeat viewings among enthusiasts. However, narrative shortcomings, such as predictable plotting and pacing flaws, may deter broader audiences from returning. Consequently, the movie offers moderate rewatch appeal, appealing primarily to dedicated fans of the series.

Baldo, the head of the influential Gorrini mafia clan, witnessed the epic showdown between All Might and All For One, where he was drawn in by the hero’s poignant final words: > “It’s your turn.” Motivated by this moment, Baldo made a firm decision to step into the role of the next “Symbol of Peace.”
In the aftermath of the chaotic Paranormal Liberation War, the devoted students of Class 1-A took to the city streets, intent on capturing the escaped villains known as Jailbreakers. During one of these encounters, Izuku Midoriya heroically attempted to save a young girl named Anna Scervino. Upon touching her, however, Izuku was inundated with disconcerting visions of roses, causing him to be violently thrown back in pain.
Just then, a foreboding figure emerged—Giulio Gandini, with an eyepatch and a mechanical arm. He aimed his weapon at Anna, but his nefarious plan was interrupted by a mysterious individual capable of manipulating time with radiant bubbles.
A massive flying fortress then descended upon the scene, bringing with it the remaining members of the Gorrini family, including Baldo himself. Remarkably similar in appearance to All Might, Baldo boldly declared himself to be “the next All Might.” After reaching out to Anna, he unleashed his formidable Quirk, unleashing a dazzling wave of light that engulfed everything—Class 1-A students, innocent civilians, and even the fortress, which morphed into a surreal giant, filled with bizarre environments.
Baldo communicated his extravagant ambition to “save Japan” to All Might at U.A. Unsurprisingly, All Might rejected Baldo’s warped interpretation of his ideals, seeing the imminent darkness lurking within. Enraged by this denial, Baldo adopted a terrifying new title: “Dark Might.”
Izuku and some classmates regained their senses in a dense forest and began to explore, but soon Izuku found himself isolated in a mountainous area where his Quirk inexplicably stopped working. He encountered Giulio, who valiantly defended him against attackers intent on silencing him for good. Despite initial reluctance, Giulio agreed to accompany Izuku as they confronted Paulo, the Gorrini family member who could erase Quirks. Through keen observation of Paulo’s abilities, Izuku emerged victorious in their fierce battle.
Suddenly, Dark Might appeared with overwhelming strength, incapacitating Izuku with a single, powerful strike while punishing Paulo by throwing him into an abyss. Giulio intervened to save Izuku, and together they tracked down Dark Might.
As they moved through urban areas, the heroes fell into a complex trap set by Deborah Gorrini, whose “Day Dream” Quirk ensnared city residents, including many from Class 1-A, manipulating them to touch Anna. This led to a horrific scene of bodies convulsing as their consciousness faded away. Izuku and Giulio were also ensnared in Deborah’s dreamlike grasp. Nevertheless, the indomitable essence of One For All surged within Izuku, allowing him to shatter the illusion and awaken to reality. Recognizing Deborah’s Quirk for what it was, he broke free from her mental binds and roused Giulio just in time to thwart an impending fatal strike.
Reinvigorated, Izuku disrupted Deborah’s control over those around him, attempting to reach Giulio again. Though Izuku fought valiantly, the Gorrini family managed to escape with Anna.
Giulio later revealed the true nature of Anna’s “Overmodification” Quirk, which could exponentially increase Quirks in compatible individuals while inflicting excruciating pain on others. He described his own Quirk, “Neutralization,” which temporarily nullified Anna’s powers. Hired by the affluent Scervino family to safeguard Anna’s well-being, Giulio faced a tragic loss when the Gorrini family ruthless eradicated the Scervino clan and kidnapped Anna.
He shared a chilling fact: Anna’s Quirk had a singularity point, beyond which her powers would spiral out of control. Giulio expressed remorse over losing his right arm during the attack, which hindered his ability to combat Anna’s growing abilities. Bound by a desperate promise made years ago, he resolved to take Anna’s life should she ever become a threat through her Quirk.
Unfazed by this grim insight, Izuku and Class 1-A maintained a collective belief in the possibility of salvation for Anna. They geared up for a decisive offensive, set on liberating her from her grim fate.
As monstrous hordes unleashed by the fortress advanced towards Class 1-A, a daring team consisting of Izuku, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki, alongside Giulio, embarked on a daunting mission to face Dark Might and rescue Anna. Outside, the colossal fortress relentlessly pressed towards U.A., prompting Endeavor and other Pro Heroes to valiantly stall its advance while orchestrating the evacuation of terrified civilians. Bakugo and Shoto faced fierce resistance from two Gorrini members, while Izuku and Giulio pressed on toward their confrontation with Dark Might. The nefarious villain unleashed the amplified strength of his “Alchemy” Quirk, eerily mirroring All Might’s devastating attacks and severely overpowering Izuku in an intense duel, all the while Giulio tirelessly searched for Anna amid the chaos.
Just as they were about to be overwhelmed, reinforcements arrived to assist Izuku, Bakugo, and Shoto in taking down Dark Might. Together, they unraveled the villain’s deceitful facade, revealing his true nature. However, just before Giulio could reach Anna, her powers spiraled dangerously out of control, leading the fortress to tremble and Dark Might to reemerge as a grotesque creature. With unwavering bravery, Giulio seized Anna, determined to support her during this volatile surge of energy. The three 1-A students unleashed their combined strength against the monstrous Dark Might, with Izuku employing his ultimate “Smash” attacks to obliterate the fortress completely.
In a critical instant, Giulio’s compatibility with Anna triggered an overload of his Neutralization Quirk, permanently suppressing her unpredictable powers. As the epic battle reached its conclusion, Giulio shared this vital discovery with Anna, assuring her that his protective vigilance was no longer needed. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Anna smiled back, reciprocating his sentiments and recognizing their newfound equality.
Meanwhile, the ominous schemes of All For One continued to unfold in the shadows…
