In Port-au-Prince, an affluent upper-middle-class couple tries to rebuild their lives after the 2010 earthquake. They inhabit the ruined shell of their former luxury home in Pacot, a stark reminder of how quickly fortune can crumble. Their young adopted son is missing, a wound that intensifies the strain between them. A team of foreign experts arrives, delivering a stark warning: repair the house, or it will be razed. The husband, Alex Descas as L’homme, watches the developments with quiet, anxious restraint, while his partner weighs every choice against the clock.

To raise the money needed for repairs, they relocate from their ruined grandeur to the old servants’ quarters and rent the only room still intact to Thibault Vinçon’s Alex, a foreign aid worker who arrives with good intentions and a sense of global duty.

Here, he meets Andrémise, a 17-year-old Haitian girl from a modest neighborhood. Andrémise is Lovely Kermonde Fifi and she adopts the name Jennifer to attract foreign men, a choice that unsettles the quiet balance of the house and the surrounding community.

Their encounter leads to a troubling relationship that unsettles the delicate dynamics at the heart of the home. As the bond deepens, Andrémise/Jennifer’s more mercenary and reckless sides come to light, and soon a fatal act unsettles everyone involved.

The shift from privilege to vulnerability is hard and swift. The once-privileged couple confronts the rigid, sometimes brutal contradictions of Haitian society, where power, dependence, and resilience collide in a tense reevaluation of what it means to survive, rebuild, and belong.
