Mr. Christmas 2005

Set in 1941, the film follows Joel Carter, a print operator who struggles to give his daughter Carol Lee the bicycle she has asked Santa Claus for this Christmas. Against the backdrop of the Great Depression and the early pressures of World War II, he does not receive a holiday bonus and is turned down for a bank loan because he lacks collateral.

On Christmas Eve, he goes downtown to persuade a shopkeeper to sell the bicycle on a payment plan, but the attempt fails and leaves him feeling defeated as he heads home. On the walk back, a stray dog unexpectedly tags along, following him through the streets toward their door and infusing the night with a small, hopeful presence.

Christmas morning arrives with the sting of disappointment—no bicycle under the tree—yet Carol Lee’s spirits lift when she discovers a stray dog waiting at the family door. She names him “Mr. Christmas,” a cheerful imprint of the season that subtly reframes their hardship.
