Spoilers ahead
From a remote Russian airbase, a cutting-edge fifth-generation jet fighter, the Sukhoi Su-XX, nicknamed Sabretooth, takes to the sky under the control of test pilot Alexei Kedrov, Alexander Efimov. The mission behind the flight is simple in theory, but the atmosphere around Kedrov is thick with doubt: he is suspected of being a traitor because of his affair with American ecologist Catherine Foley, Kseniya Alfyorova. Kedrov is portrayed as patriotic and professional, yet he remains unknowingly entangled in a plot far larger than a single test flight, a plot that hinges on Catherine’s true allegiance and a shadowy figure pulling strings from behind the scenes—the enigmatic Mysterious Man, Rutger Hauer.
