Metropolitan psychologist-linguist Sergei Pshenichny Sergey Koltakov finds his orderly world upended after a heated ideological quarrel with his father Feliks Stepun. Their story kicks off at a city concert by the rock group Nautilus Pompilius, where the mood shifts from routine to curiosity as Sergei and his acquaintance Andrei Nemchinov Ivan Bortnik drift toward a film crew filming a post-war scene in the park. To get a closer look at the action, they climb a fence and accidentally step on a stray cable, an impulsive move that pulls them into a different time, landing them in the late 1940s.

From that moment, the pair discovers a strange, unyielding pattern: every night gives way to morning, and the day restarts on May 8, 1949. They relive the same day again and again, unable to break the cycle.
