However, the bus comes to a sudden stop as commanded by the Chief and Wayne, spurred by the revelation of their location through the dog’s microchip. The authorities have their own hidden motivations, as they incapacitate both Wayne and the teens before taking off with all the cash. When they awaken, dazed and robbed, Wayne is primarily concerned with reclaiming the buried portion of the money the teens stashed. His motives are twofold: not only does he stand to win a significant amount, but he believes that should he succeed, it would secure Jonas’s freedom.

As Wayne digs for the treasure, an unexpected twist arises when Casey, forced by the horrific circumstances, retrieves a gun bought by Jonas. Empowered yet fearful, she decisively turns the weapon on her father, ending his life in a tragic burst of gunfire. In the aftermath, the teenagers are glimpsed hitching a ride in a truck, with half of the ill-gotten gains in their possession, and the pistol tucked away for safekeeping, signaling their resolve to move forward while leaving the past behind.
