Mike’s suspicions crystallize when he confronts Tobi with the possibility that he is his biological father, a notion hinted at by Mike’s dying mother. When Tobi denies it, Mike reacts with force, seizing a DNA sample and rushing to a police lab where his friend Jim conducts the test. The moment shifts the dynamic from dialogue to tension, and Lisa remains to pick up the pieces, cleaning up the mess and stepping into a space where compassion begins to replace suspicion.

Lisa grows closer to Tobi, and the elder man speaks at last about a hidden truth. He reveals that he has always known he is Mike’s father, but he denied it out of shame. He explains that he chose not to raise the newborn, sacrificing the chance to be a parent in order to pursue his dancing career. He also admits to contributing to Mike’s college tuition, and to wanting to keep the past firmly in the past by framing the pregnancy and the decision to raise the child as the mother’s, not his. Mike, however, explains that the mother had not been raised to see abortion as a viable option, adding a layer of societal pressure to an already fragile history. In this exchange, the film lays bare how love, guilt, and responsibility intersect in complicated family dynamics.

When Mike returns to drive Lisa home, the three of them begin to argue again, and Tobi is urged to treat Lisa with care. The argument escalates with Mike expressing a harsh self-critique—telling Tobi that he chose a life where no one loves him—before Lisa convinces Tobi to tell the truth outright. The trio agrees to meet for brunch the next day, a moment that promises possible reconciliation and reconciliation’s risks.

The following morning, however, Jim calls with startling news: the DNA results are not a match. Lisa and Mike relay this to Tobi, who sinks into an anxious, almost overwhelmed state and asks for solitude. The tension eases into a fragile quiet, and the film ends on a note of tentative renewal as Tobi is heard reaching out to friends to accept an invitation to a dinner party, suggesting that life, forgiveness, and community may still be rebuilt.
