Ryûichi Kuroda is a seasoned Yakuza hitman who is forced to execute his lover on orders from Azakawa, setting off a brutal power struggle. His brother, Saburo Kuroda, an aspiring boxer, makes a failed bid to confront Azakawa, ending up with broken fists and a career jeopardized. With the brothers’ fates at stake, Ryuichi chooses to break away, and a raid on his bar signals the consequences of leaving the boss’s orbit. He then moves to seize some of Azakawa’s smaller businesses by force, reshaping the balance of power.
Azakawa responds with ruthless precision: he kills a pachinko arcade operator who had switched sides to the Kurodas and sends the body in a coffin that hides a bomb for which Ryuichi must find a way to defuse. He also blackmails a bowling alley operator now loyal to the Kurodas into luring Ryuichi and the middle brother, Eiji Kuroda, into an ambush—an ambush they barely escape. After Ryuichi spares the operator’s life, Azakawa switches tactics and kidnaps Saburo.
Ryuichi travels to Azakawa’s manor to negotiate Saburo’s release, but Eiji Kuroda slips inside and kills the guards just before the handover. In a grim reversal, Eiji then kills Azakawa himself.
The plot thickens when Eiji, while attempting to sleep with Azakawa’s mistress Shino, is caught and killed by gunmen now under the control of Shirasaka, Azakawa’s successor and Ryuichi’s former mentor. With vengeance driving him, Ryûichi Kuroda faces down Shirasaka in a final showdown on an unfinished highway.
In the climactic duel, Ryuichi cuts through Shirasaka’s gunmen before facing the man himself. The exchange ends with both men fatally wounded, and Saburo running toward the site of the gunfight as the film closes on a stark, unresolved moment.
