Rumi Bagga Taapsee Pannu, a spirited young woman living within a close-knit family, finds herself deeply in love with Vicky Sandhu Vicky Kaushal, a part-time DJ who brings a carefree energy to her world. But the family pressure to marry intensifies as they push for a next step, and Rumi makes a bold promise: Vicky will come with his parents to ask for her hand, and if he doesn’t show up, she’ll accept an arrangement chosen by her family. This looming deadline casts a shadow over their romance, and Vicky, nervous and immature, keeps faltering at the critical moment.

After mounting doubts, Rumi decides to walk away from the precarious future with Vicky and agrees to an arranged marriage with Robbie Bhatia Abhishek Bachchan, a mature and financially stable banker who seems like a steady match for her. The suitor’s proposal is accepted, but the night before the wedding, doubt lingers in the air as Rumi wonders if Vicky has truly changed. Vicky’s hesitation resurfaces and he ultimately backs out again, leaving Robbie as the prospective husband who steps into the ceremony the following day. The marriage proceeds, and Rumi gradually grows comfortable in Robbie’s company, finding a sense of stability she hadn’t anticipated.

As life settles into this new arrangement, Vicky reappears in a moment of complexity, showing up to talk to Robbie about Rumi and the marriage.
