Set in a fictional village, the film follows two intertwined lives: the village’s most beautiful woman, Unnimaya, who famously eloped with a postman named Padmanabhan, and an ordinary young man named Ashokan, whose string of failed marriage proposals casts a quiet shadow over his days. The social pressure of the town weighs on him as relatives and neighbors gossip, with his cousin Ajayan often trailing a tease that never quite leaves him.

On the eve of Ashokan’s wedding, the bride asks the startling question of whether this might be his second marriage, a moment that pushes him to revisit the few dreams he once had about tying the knot. Despite a solid home life—his loving parents standing behind him and loyal friends—Ratheesh and Shaiju remain by his side through every twist and turn of his search for a stable future.

The first practical proposal comes through Narayanan’s daughter, Anju. Yet Anju rejects Ashokan, telling him that he isn’t fair-skinned or tall enough for her ideal of a husband. Undeterred, Ashokan discovers a new object of affection: Shyama, who declares her love for him. Even though they move forward with her family’s blessing, their wedding is ultimately called off after Ashokan’s horoscope ominously predicts the death of his first wife, leaving him heartbroken and once again adrift.

Meanwhile, [Ratheesh] and his partner Rani find happiness through their own union, a contrast to Ashokan’s unsettled path. Seeking guidance, Ashokan turns to an astrologer who proposes a surreal remedy: to marry a plantain, a ritual meant to shield him from further harm. He follows this strangerly counsel, treating the plantain as if it were a human spouse, speaking to it every day. When the plantain eventually falls away, his heartbreak deepens, only to be followed by a surprising turn: two corms from the plantain are planted again, and Ashokan begins to regard these two new sprouts as his children.

As another marriage proposal arrives, Ashokan hesitates, fearing a repetition of past heartbreak. His friends try to coax him forward, but the real turning point comes when his cousin Arjun steps in for a candid talk that helps him grasp the reality of his situation. With a renewed sense of clarity, Ashokan agrees to marry Indu. On the wedding night, he reassures his bride that this time, the union is his first true marriage, grounding the pairing in a quiet, hopeful resolve.

Throughout, the film threads humor, family ties, and a gentle exploration of love’s many forms, all set against the rhythms of village life and the baffling quirks of superstition, fate, and the stubborn endurance of the human heart.
