An attention-craving magician bursts into a rehearsal and, with a swaggering grin, demands to open the show that night. Mysto the Magician Daws Butler rudely interrupts the world-famous opera singer, the great Poochini Carlos Ramírez (a playful nod to Giacomo Puccini), and his bold challenge sets the tone for a chaotic backstage showdown. The aria-in-progress pauses while Mysto tries to claim the spotlight, but Poochini remains unimpressed by flashy tricks and simply ejects Mysto from the opera house with a firm shove.
Undeterred, Mysto hatches a cheeky plan: he will pose as the orchestra conductor, using his wand as a baton to steer the music and settle the score with a single, clever revenge. As the real conductor is frozen in place, Mysto steps into the tuxedo, complete with borrowed nose and wig, and takes the podium with theatrical flair. The reluctant aria continues, and the stage becomes a playground for mischief as Mysto unleashes a stream of magical tricks. He summons rabbits, conjures flowers, and toys with Poochini’s appearance—coaxing him into removing his own pants, then changing his wardrobe multiple times, each transformation nudging the performance into a new stylistic direction. At one moment, a hair protruding on the screen becomes a small, cheeky interruption as Poochini pauses briefly to pluck it away and return to the song.
An irate audience member in a balcony seat becomes a running comic counterpoint to the spectacle. He pepper-sprays chaos into the scene, first tossing a volley of fruit at Poochini and turning him into a Carmen Miranda–style singer, then blasting him with black ink from a fountain pen, pushing the performance into tenor territory with a tint of the Ink Spots. The finale of this mid-performance mayhem arrives when the man drops an anvil onto Poochini’s head, dramatically shortening his height and shifting his vocals into a spoken bass line, a playful parody of the group’s “Top & Bottom” format. A second burst of rabbit-assisted hijinks—one rabbit washing the ink off with a fire hose, another lifting Poochini’s arm like a mechanical jack—helps restore some height, and Mysto, temporarily buoyant, is turned into a Hawaiian singer in the whirlwind of disruptions.
In the closing bars of the aria, Mysto’s borrowed wig finally slips free, and Poochini recognizes the magician behind the ruse. The singer seizes the wig and wand, using them against Mysto in quick succession, and, with a final magical flourish, has Mysto levitated onto the stage. As Mysto makes a last attempt to flee, Poochini asserts control, turning the tricks of the conjurer back on him. The curtain descends in a dramatic sweep, flattening Mysto and his rabbits and bringing the performance—and the cartoon—to a comical, decisive close.
