Retail worker Matthew Morning, Théodore Pellerin, is employed at a popular Los Angeles clothing store that often hosts the attention of Oliver, a rising pop musician. One afternoon, Matthew catches Oliver’s eye by playing an undervalued song he loves over the store speakers, and the moment sparks a connection. Oliver grants him a backstage pass to a forthcoming concert and invites him to join his inner circle as the group’s documentary storyteller. At first, Oliver’s friends are skeptical, but Matthew’s keen eye and creative contribution soon win them over, and he begins shaping visual elements for Oliver’s upcoming album cycle, eventually leaving his ordinary job behind.

As Matthew becomes a known figure on social media due to his association with Oliver, he is approached by Jamie, a former co-worker who is also an Oliver fan and eager to meet him. Matthew reluctantly agrees, and Jamie quickly becomes an additional member of the entourage, serving as the stylist and stirring a bit of tension within the group. Oliver wheels his entourage, including Matthew and Jamie, along on a trip to London for a concert, turning the journey into a broader artistic mission.

On the trip, mounting jealousy drives Matthew to try to undermine Jamie, culminating in a dangerous moment when he knocks Jamie off a ladder during a photoshoot. The incident fractures the group, and Oliver and his friends shun Matthew in the wake of the accident, leaving him isolated and desperate to prove his value.

After failed attempts to reconcile with Oliver, Matthew makes a troubling move: he encounters two underage fans of Oliver, gives them backstage passes, and discreetly records an interaction between them and Oliver, who believes they are adults. Seizing the moment, Matthew uses the footage to blackmail Oliver, forcing him to let Matthew back into the entourage until he can finish a documentary about Oliver.

On tour, Matthew stays close to Oliver as the musician makes several efforts to retrieve the hard drive where Matthew has stored the controversial footage. Oliver insists that he genuinely sees Matthew as a friend and argues that deleting the footage would ease the tension, while Matthew contends that the pressure is pushing him to become a better artist and that he is Oliver’s first honest friend because he isn’t merely a compliant “yes man.”

The tension finally escalates when Oliver’s friends pull the tour bus into a desolate area and beat Matthew, giving Oliver the chance to access the hard drive. Yet as Oliver digs through it, he discovers edited footage of the documentary Matthew has been filming throughout the tour, and it seems to prompt a shift in his perspective about their relationship.

Sometime later, Matthew’s documentary premieres at a film festival to a receptive crowd, and Oliver stands beside him onstage as the applause erupts. In the post-screening moment, an aspiring photographer in the audience asks how Matthew reached his position, and Oliver’s reply is interrupted by Matthew’s hesitant, stumbling attempt to answer, leaving the question hanging as the credits begin to roll.
