In the remote village of Hijalganj, a specially abled child with four arms is born into a lower-caste family. The locals, steeped in religious superstition, believe she is the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Yet the village’s upper-class elites begin exploiting her for their own gain, treating her as a means to enrich themselves rather than as a person in need.
Three junior doctors from Kolkata—Amir Hussain Joydeep Mukherjee, Gayatri Ritwika Pal, and Shibnath Dutta Purab Seal Acharya—discover the child and realize she requires immediate medical care. They try to persuade the family, but the relatives resist and threaten them if they attempt to take the child away. The trio, moved by compassion and urgency, decide to act, albeit against local norms.
With no other option, the doctors, aided by the child’s mother, secretly spirit the child away to Kolkata to seek treatment. Their plan gains momentum with support from their teacher Dr. Mitali Sen Churni Ganguly Sen, her estranged IAS officer husband Rwitobroto Sen Babul Supriyo, the fearless news reporter Joy Mitra Ambarish Bhattacharya, and Amir’s lawyer father Anwar Hussain Joydeep Mukherjee. Together, they secure permission and arrange for life-saving care at a hospital in Bhubaneswar.
When it’s time to return, the villagers refuse to accept the child as one of their own, a painful reminder of the social rift that trauma has exposed. Only the child’s mother remains steadfast, while Gayatri and Shibnath manage to flee with the child. Amir, however, is captured by a local politician and his goons, who beat him severely, leaving him paralyzed and with brain damage.
Years pass, and Laxmi—now adopted by Gopa Manosree Biswas at Dr. Mitali’s home—has found a new place in a family that chooses to care for her. The film closes on an emotional note as Amir, wheelchair-bound and unable to speak, reaches out to gently hold Laxmi’s hand, a quiet, powerful moment that speaks to resilience, chosen kinship, and the enduring bonds formed in the face of prejudice and fear.
