What Is Land of the Dead About?

In a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies, the remnants of humanity have retreated to a walled city ruled by the oppressive warlord Paul Kaufman. Kaufman maintains order through a strict class system, but the undead population continues to grow and evolve, displaying unexpected intelligence. As the zombies become more organized, a rebellion led by Cholo DeMora emerges, jeopardizing Kaufman’s control and threatening to plunge the city into chaos.

The film begins with an intense recap of the zombie apocalypse as the opening credits roll, bringing us into a decrepit town overrun by zombies. These creatures appear to possess some residual knowledge from their past lives, exhibited when they attempt to play music in a town square or when a teenage boy zombie holds hands with a girl zombie, mimicking a romantic date. Near a gas station, a zombie attendant named Big Daddy answers a bell but, finding no car, merely returns the nozzle to its place.
