Plachottil Kuttan Pillai, Suraj Venjaramoodu, is a strong-willed policeman who finds genuine contentment in a simple life. He shares this quiet world with his wife Sub-Inspector Shakunthala Asha Sreekanth and their backyard farm, a small sanctuary where their three grown children—each married and settled—often return for the yearly Shivarathri festival.

A party of relatives, the children, their spouses, and the extended family, converge on their modest home to participate in the festival held at the nearby Shiva Temple, a occasion that should bring warmth and togetherness but gradually reveals the tug-of-war between tradition and personal ambition. Among the tensions, the plans of Suneesh Biju Sopanam, one of the sons-in-law, loom large as he aims to cut down a massive jackfruit tree in Kuttan Pillai’s backyard to fashion furniture for his new house. Kuttan Pillai, who cherishes the yard as a living piece of his family’s history, protests the idea, standing firm against a decision he views as an unnecessary desecration of the home he loves.

The dispute escalates into a direct confrontation, and Suneesh ends up leaving the house with his wife Rajani Srindaa and their children. The next day, tragedy shakes the family—the jackfruit tree remains, but Kuttan Pillai dies when a falling fruit strikes him as he strolls in the yard he cared for. The death ushers in a ghostly new order: Kuttan Pillai returns as a spirit, watching over the house from the unseen margins and bearing witness to life after death.

As a ghost, Kuttan Pillai discovers that some of the other spirits haunting the home died in the Puttingal Temple Fire, a catastrophe tied to the same festival—the memory of that disaster casting a shadow over the living and the dead alike. The living family members carry on with everyday concerns, while the apparitions navigate a quiet, shared space that straddles two worlds. Suneesh makes another move to cut the tree soon after the funeral, rekindling the tension, but Shakunthala steps in with a firm warning that halts the plan and restores a fragile balance.

In that moment, the film threads a sense of reconciliation. The memory of Kuttan Pillai’s life—his dedication to family, his protective instinct for the yard he tended, and his ultimate fate—softens the edges of conflict, and the house seems to settle into a gentler cadence.
