The film follows the invasive vine Kudzu (Pueraria thunbergiana), brought from Japan by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the 1930s to control erosion and now overrunning the Southern landscape. Presented with humor and insight, it spotlights the Kudzu Queen, a rock band, local eccentrics and a cameo by former President Jimmy Carter, while poet‑novelist James Dickey reads verses from his poem “Kudzu,” showing how the plant has become entwined with Southern culture.
