Subramani Gounder K. S. Ravikumar is a stubborn, tradition-minded elder who clings to a wary distance from any new-age technology. He lives in Coimbatore with his son, Aadhi Tharshan Thiyagarajah, a skilled mechanical engineer who wants to chart his own path. Subramani’s greatest wish is to have his son by his side in his final days, so he forbids Aadhi from seeking or accepting any job. This strict demand sparks a fierce clash between father and son, pushing Aadhi to leave for Germany in search of a fresh start and a chance to prove himself elsewhere.

In Germany, Aadhi meets Tharani, a Sri Lankan Tamil woman, and the two form a close, supportive bond. Tharani shares a painful personal memory—her father died of Alzheimer’s—which deepens her empathy and helps Aadhi confront his guilt over not being there for his father. Back home, Subramani falls ill, and Aadhi is jolted by the realization that distance cannot erase his obligations. His employer introduces him to a robotic home nurse that could handle his father’s daily needs, offering a practical solution to the growing care burden.

Aadhi ultimately returns home with an android helper named Kuttappa (the robot’s name translates to “short man”). Subramani is initially wary and even frightened by the machine, but he gradually develops a surprising affection for it. The more time he spends with Kuttappa, the more the robot becomes a fixture in his life, and he grows increasingly attached. The community around them becomes puzzled by the bond, especially because there is also a local man named Kuttappan, Rahul’s father, a figure who has long been the subject of tension and fear in the neighborhood.

Kuttappa’s presence reshapes Subramani’s daily routine and even rekindles a connection to Pavithra, Subramani’s ex-lover, as the robot helps reach out to that past in subtle, comforting ways. Subramani begins to see Kuttappa almost as a son, a development that fills him with warmth but also seeds of worry in Aadhi. Concerned about losing his father to a machine, Aadhi decides to step back and urges Subramani to perform his chores without the robot’s help. Yet, after a tense moment when Tharani repairs a disassembled Kuttappa, Subramani’s fear spikes. He lashes out, arguing with Aadhi that the robot could end up harming him, while Aadhi insists on protecting him by maintaining a safe distance from the machine.

That night, the pair stumble upon a frightening CCTV clip showing a previously modeled robot strangling its elderly client to death. The sight unsettles Subramani deeply and raises the stakes of the dilemma they face. Soon after, Subramani and Kuttappa vanish during a forest trek as Aadhi, Tharani, and Babu (Aadhi’s cousin) race to find them. In the forest, Subramani uploads his own face as a hint of hope to Pavithra, and Kuttappa finally admits a startling truth: he is not a human being, but a machine whose purpose is to assist Subramani. He confesses that he does not want Subramani to love him in the way one loves a person, and he urges Subramani to leave him behind in the forest and return home.

The emotional rift reaches a climax when Rahul attacks Kuttappa, triggering the robot’s built-in protective reflexes—Kuttappa ends up choking Rahul in the struggle. Subramani intervenes to save Aadhi, and the trio—Subramani, Aadhi, Tharani—and Babu make their way back home. As they ride home on the motorcycle, Subramani watches Aadhi with tear-filled eyes, the weight of the late-life decision visible on his face. Back at Pavithra’s side, she waits with patience as Subramani’s profile picture on his device finally updates to reflect his own face—a small, poignant symbol of a man choosing to live with the reality of his life, rather than the fantasy of control.
