In the enchanting yet perilous world of the Xo rainforest in South America, we follow a spirited teenage coati named Nachi, who embarks on a string of adventures alongside his only companion, a lively glass frog called Pako. As they frolic through the wilderness, their playful antics often annoy the other jungle inhabitants, particularly a wise and nurturing jaguar named Balam, who has been a guardian to Nachi since he lost his parents. Despite Balam’s caring nature, he notes that Nachi’s uniqueness sets him apart from the other animals. However, he does commend Nachi for his noble act of saving a lovely monarch butterfly named Xochi and attempts to impart lessons on earning respect through kindness and responsibility. The worried motherly quetzal, Amaya, keeps a watchful eye over Nachi, fearful of the dangers that lurk in their vibrant jungle.
Amidst their playful mischief, the animals of the jungle convene for a council due to a series of alarming earthquakes rocking their home. The astute armadillo shaman Cocopa foresees destruction ahead, hinting at the necessity for renewal in the face of disaster. As a massive quake strikes, panic ensues among the creatures, leading to a frantic rush for safety. During this chaos, a baby ocelot becomes trapped under debris. True to his bold nature, Balam selflessly rushes to save the young cat but tragically becomes ensnared himself. Despite efforts to rescue him, a tree falls and fatally injures Balam, leading to a somber funeral that the animals hold in his honor.
With Balam gone, the power dynamics shift dramatically; the cunning coral snake named Zaina seizes control, aided by her henchman Jithu and a menacing group she leads known as the Snake Squad. Zaina’s sinister plan to abandon Xo and lead others to a supposed utopia, dubbed “Not Xo Land,” incites fury within Nachi, who foolishly blames her for the loss of his guardian. In his anger, he implores his fellow animals to resist her authority, but Zaina, unyielding, commands him to leave Xo forever. Refusing to bow to her whims, Nachi takes refuge in an ancient temple, where he is soon joined by Amaya and Pako.
As the delicate balance of the jungle hangs in the balance, Amaya reveals profound truths about Nachi’s heritage related to the fabled Tree of Life, which sparks a sense of duty in him to seek guidance from Cocopa. Following a brief but pivotal encounter, Cocopa instructs Nachi to search for the Tree of Life and a mythical place known as the Mouth That Doesn’t Speak. Inspired by this wisdom, Nachi shares his newfound knowledge with Amaya and pledges to embark on a quest to discover a new land.
In the days that follow, Nachi along with Pako sets forth on an arduous journey, evading the relentless pursuit of Zaina and Jithu. They bravely navigate the wilderness, encountering various challenges along the way. Their determination eventually leads them to the Tree of Life, where they meet Calli, a jabiru stork who reluctantly agrees to lead them to the ominous volcano. There, they cross paths with Xochi, who pleads for their assistance in saving her family from an impending calamity. Despite some hardships, they manage to rescue many, though some are tragically lost along the way.
Their return to warn the other animals about the volcano’s threat proves fruitless, as Zaina dismisses Nachi as a liar, further undermining his credibility. Consumed by guilt for leading his friends on a perilous and seemingly pointless journey, Nachi finds solace in Cocopa’s guidance and resumes his search for the Mouth That Doesn’t Speak. Following an unexpected encounter with an axolotl named Xuxu, he discovers a chiseled mouth in a cave, which he recognizes as a potential safe haven.
Fueled by newfound courage, Nachi bravely confronts Zaina, who is determined to allow the weak to perish in the fiery lava. With the help of his friends, Nachi leads the animals to the cave, including Jithu, who ultimately rebels against Zaina. In a heart-stopping moment, Amaya suffers injuries while heroically saving Nachi, illuminating his true virtues in contrast to Zaina’s wickedness. United, Nachi and Pako successfully banish Zaina, who meets a comical end when Calli transports her to a cactus and the talons of a harpy eagle.
At last, the animals reach a tranquil valley and witness its magnificent rebirth. Nachi’s bravery earns him the title of hero, while Pako gains acceptance, and Xochi finally spreads her wings. As they celebrate this newfound harmony, an ominous presence lingers; Zaina is seen watching from the depths of the jungle, plotting her revenge and silently vowing that this story is far from over.
