Johnny Colini, Marc Lawrence, an American living in Rome, rescues Salvatore Giordano, a young Sicilian outlaw, from the police. After Giordano is groomed, polished, and renamed Johnny Cool, Colini sends him on a mission of vengeance to the United States to assassinate the men who plotted his downfall and forced his exile. Johnny Cool arrives in New York and wastes no time, quickly eliminating several of the underworld figures on Colini’s list, carving a path of sudden and brutal retribution.

As the body count climbs, Colini’s protégé hooks up with a powerful unexpected ally. Darien “Dare” Guinness, Elizabeth Montgomery, a wealthy divorcée, becomes his accomplice and partner in this high-stakes vigilante crusade. Dare’s involvement adds a glossy, dangerous edge to the pursuit, until a chilling warning is issued: the gangsters brutalize Dare as a warning to stop the vendetta. The assault leaves a measurable mark, underscoring the price of crossing the criminal powers Johnny has targeted.

The tension escalates as the FBI steps in, shifting the balance of power and adding official pressure to an already volatile situation. In a bold strike, Johnny and Dare bomb the Hollywood home of gangster Lennart Crandall, a move that draws sharp attention from law enforcement. Dare’s panic during the investigation leads to a critical clue—the police identify her car when she leaves it parked on the street—pulling the couple deeper into a dangerous chase.

Separated for a time with plans to reunite, Dare ultimately confronts the consequences of their ruthless crusade. Realizing the depth of Johnny’s capacity for violence, she chooses to betray him, guiding his enemies to his whereabouts. In the film’s finale, Dare surrenders herself to the FBI, while Johnny is left in the hands of his captors, enduring torture as the story reaches its grim conclusion.
