As the chief engineer at SeaWorld Orlando, Michael “Mike” Brody (son of the respected police chief Martin Brody) skillfully manages the daily operations of the park alongside his girlfriend, Kathryn “Kay” Morgan, a senior biologist at the facility. The aquatic attraction features exhilarating elements, including newly built underwater tunnels that offer a stunning view into the depths of marine life. Yet, beneath the serene surface, troubling signs begin to emerge.

When the lagoon gates malfunction, a formidable great white shark silently slips into the waters of the park, its presence only made known by the sudden vanishing of unsuspecting water skiers. As Kay and her team grow increasingly anxious, they note that the resident dolphins—particularly Cindy and Sandy—refuse to leave their enclosure, sensing the lurking peril beneath the waves.

As the sun sets over Amity Island, a colorful cast of characters gathers at SeaWorld. Park manager Calvin Bouchard warmly welcomes his adventurous friend, Philip FitzRoyce (guest), while Mike’s younger brother Sean arrives for a much-anticipated summer break from college. That fateful night, mechanic Shelby Overman boldly dives into the lagoon to fix the stuck gates, only to become the shark’s first tragic casualty, leaving behind a gruesome path of destruction.

In the wake of this incident, Mike, Kay, and Sean meet at a local bar where Sean encounters Kelly Ann Bukowski, an enthusiastic water skier. Meanwhile, two petty thieves sneak into the park under the veil of night, aiming to steal valuable coral. Their greedy endeavor ends abruptly as they fall victim to the relentless shark.

As the mystery surrounding Overman’s disappearance unfolds, Kay and Mike are called to investigate the unsettling scene. They embark on an underwater expedition in a submersible, assisted by an unexpected rescue from the very dolphins they had been observing. During their exploration, they encounter a juvenile great white shark, hinting at the darker troubles that lie ahead.

As news of these tragic events reaches them, Bouchard and the park staff are left shaken, grappling with the reality of having a lethal predator in their midst. FitzRoyce suggests a daring plan: to kill the shark live on television, which would create significant publicity for the park. However, Kay argues for a more compassionate solution – capturing the creature alive, a groundbreaking move that could enthrall audiences around the world.

The team successfully ensnares the shark, but despite Kay’s diligent care, it ultimately succumbs to its injuries, its lifeless form becoming a stark reminder of the threats lurking below the surface. As tensions mount, Sean is swayed by Kelly to ride one of the park’s bumper boats, even though he harbors lingering fears from past experiences in Amity.

As the horrifying discovery of Overman’s remains becomes public, Kay’s keen observational skills unveil a shocking reality: the massive creature responsible for the tragedy is none other than the monstrous mother shark, whose immense 35-foot body now poses a catastrophic threat. This revelation ignites a rush of urgency as Kay strives to warn Calvin of the imminent disaster, just as the shark appears at the window of the underwater café, sending chills through everyone present.

With chaos engulfing the park, Kelly tragically falls victim to the shark’s rampage, causing mayhem as the park teeters on the brink of ruin. FitzRoyce and his trusted aide, Jack Tate, take a perilous gamble by descending into the filtration pipe in a desperate attempt to outwit the predator. As Jack skillfully shuts the gate, FitzRoyce bravely directs the shark back toward its lair, yet his tether line snaps under the tremendous pressure of the pumps.

Trapped and vulnerable within the pipe, FitzRoyce makes a final attempt to eliminate the beast with a bang stick, only to meet a gruesome fate at the jaws of the shark. Unbeknownst to Mike and Kay, the shark has been lured into the pipe as they rush to repair the underwater tunnel.

As Calvin orders the pumps to be halted in a misguided attempt to suffocate the creature, this strategy accidentally frees the shark, which then charges toward Mike and Kay. Once more, the dolphins come to the rescue, saving their friends from certain doom as the park’s guests are meticulously evacuated. Mike and Kay make their way back to the control room.

But fate has one last twist: the shark crashes through the control room’s glass window, flooding it and claiming yet another life. Amidst the pandemonium, Mike spots FitzRoyce’s lifeless body floating within the shark’s grip, still clutching the grenade that will ultimately signal its end. With a mighty effort, Mike maneuvers a bent pole to detonate the grenade, finally putting an end to the shark’s reign of terror.

As calm returns to the tumultuous park, Mike and Kay share a moment of victory with their dolphin companions, who have triumphed in their extraordinary battle against the monstrous predator.
