Set on Pachai Theevu, the film opens with a powerful king who commands the coast and its people. His son and prince Jagathalapradhapan (Raja) is a fearless young warrior who sails the seas to purge pirates from his waters. His quest leads him to Sangu Theevu, where the feared pirate chief Alai Kallan rules the waves. Amid the island’s fishing communities, he encounters Mohini, and a tender romance blossoms between them, lighting a beacon of hope and romance in the danger-filled sea-world they inhabit.
After a bold clash with Alai Kallan, Jagathalapradhapan captures the pirate and decides to return to his homeland. He promises Mohini that he will bring his parents to help arrange their wedding, anchoring their bond in a future that could unite two very different worlds—the royal realm and the sea-side community.
Yet in the royal palace, the king and his wife Mangayarkarasi hatch a plan that fractures the couple’s hopes. They arrange for their son’s marriage to a princess, Azhagu Nachiyar, forcing Jagathalapradhapan to confront the reality that his beloved Mohini may never be his to keep. He fights to persuade his parents that Mohini is the one he truly wants to marry, but the obstacles loom large.
To end the dispute once and for all, a conspiracy unfolds. Mohini is murdered underwater by hired thugs, and a cruel tantrik enters the scene, manipulating the feud between Jagathalapradhapan and Alai Kallan to seize ultimate power. The twists of fate grow darker when Mohini’s spirit returns to earth to intervene, staying close to Jagathalaprathapan as danger looms.
Meanwhile, Mohini harbors a dangerous plan of her own—she attempts to draw Jagathalaprathapan into an isolated forest to join her in heaven. The move is foiled by Azhagu Nachiyar’s clever tricks, and the tantrik’s scheme to kill Jagathalaprathapan using Alai Kallan seems poised for success—until Jagathalaprathapan kills Alai Kallan in a pivotal moment, denying the villain his prize.
The goddess, watching these events unfold, asks the hero to voice his wish. She reveals that Mohini cannot return to her body in the mortal world, yet she offers an alternative: Mohini’s soul is placed within Azhagu Nachiyar’s body, granting her salvation, or motcham, in a symbolic rebirth. In the end, the kingdoms are united and the lovers’ souls find a lasting peace, ruling together in harmony after the trials that tested them all.
