Jaffa 2013

Jaffa, Brahmanandam, a former software engineer, narrates his story from a jail cell where he quickly wins the trust of his fellow inmates and becomes their informal leader, solving disputes and smoothing tensions with a steady hand. He also forms a wary alliance with the jailer Nikki, whose stubborn pursuit of a terrorist in custody sets the stage for the larger drama. As Jaffa’s influence grows, so does Nikki’s urgency, and the two men develop a tense but functional partnership built on shared risk and timing.

When Nikki’s relentless attempts to extract information from the captive terrorist culminate in the man’s suicide, Nikki finds himself in escalating danger. Facing mounting pressure, he appeals to Jaffa for a daring escape plan. The scheme hinges on a grim ruse: to help Jaffa slip out of the jail, they will place Father Suyodhana’s corpse in a coffin and stage a burial. Under the cover of the funeral, Jaffa would hide inside the coffin, and once the graveyard burial is complete, Nikki would return to exhume him and deliver the escape.

The film then shifts to present day, with Jaffa still sealed inside the coffin. The twist reveals that Nikki did not survive his attempt to kill Father Suyodhana with poisoned milk, and Jaffa is left in a precarious, coffin-bound limbo. Cut off from the outside world, he recalls Nikki’s advice to dial Vishal if help is needed. Yet language becomes a barrier: Nikki’s phone is set to Hindi script, which Jaffa cannot read, and the other device has no power. With limited options, Jaffa resolves to call every number stored on Nikki’s phone, hoping one connection will lead to salvation.

Meanwhile, the authorities are on his trail. CBI Officer Katragadda, Ali, heads the pursuit, determined to resolve the case. He tracks down three jail witnesses who might illuminate Jaffa’s whereabouts, but all three meet a fatal end before he can question them. As the net tightens, the story intensifies around whether Katragadda can close in on Jaffa and whether a rescue can arrive in time to break the coffin’s grip on the man it contains.
