Set in the halcyon days before the COVID-19 pandemic ravaged India, Ikkat follows the lives of Vasu and Janvi, a young couple navigating life in suburban Bangalore. Their days are punctuated by petty squabbles over trifles and miscommunications, often sparked by small irritants like a spider wandering through the rooms. What starts as a spat on a trivial issue quickly spirals into talk of divorce, underscoring how fragile a relationship can feel when stress mounts. The looming shadow of an impending lockdown, announced by the Prime Minister, forces them to put those plans on hold and reconsider what they mean to each other. The sudden confinement becomes a strange form of therapy, giving them a chance to reflect on the roots of their affection and the simple routines that kept them together in happier times.

As they tentatively seek to rebuild trust, an intruder arrives in the form of Dude Maga, a TikTok personality who ends up moving into their home without their knowledge. The prospect of shared space rekindles tension as he proposes to Janvi and suggests she elope with him. She initially resists and tries to send him on his way, but the subtler temptations of his presence begin to erode the boundaries they had begun to rebuild. She starts sneaking him meals after the others sleep, blurring lines and testing the marriage in unsettling ways. Vasu senses something unseen in the house but cannot put his finger on it, and the unease deepens as the two lie under the same roof with an outsider.

The arrival of a distant relative, Karna Uncle, who appears to be battling a severe cold, raises fears of COVID-19 and adds a volatile new element to the couple’s home. Wary of the new guest, a precautionary air of dread settles over the house. Vasu confides his suspicions about a possible presence in the home to Karna. Together they perform a small ritual, a Yajna, aimed at exorcising any specter and, in the process, they unmask Dude Maga. The intruder is expelled, but Janvi’s complicity becomes evident when she is exposed as having kept his presence hidden. The revelation strains the fragile truce and sets off a new round of suspicion and accusation within the marriage.

Using the information about Janvi to smear her reputation, Karna attempts to push the couple toward divorce, counting on Vasu’s anger and trust being eroded by gossip. Yet Vasu chooses to believe in Janvi’s honesty and decides to stand by her, pushing Karna out of the house. Karna resists, but a nearby COVID-19 response team—led by Vasu’s nosy neighbor Murthy—arrives, finding Karna symptomatic and escorting him to quarantine. The confrontation resolves the immediate tension and the two reconnect, realizing how fragile and resilient their bond can be when faced with a shared crisis.

With the tension eased and the lockdown extended on the television, the couple sit together, contemplating the future as the spider continues its quiet traversal across the screen. The scene underscores the film’s quiet truth: the pressures of external crises can either fracture relationships or force them to adapt, and in Ikkat, adaptation wins out—though not without a few reminders of how precarious balance can be when the world outside keeps changing.
