The film opens with Debjani lying dead on a bed, as Abhijit Mukherjee enters the room and the mystery of what happened begins to unfold. The story then rewinds to reveal the events that led to that moment, painting a portrait of a man whose life is steeped in numbers and doubt, and a woman whose humanity draws him into a grayer, more vulnerable world.

Abhijit Mukherjee is a mathematics professor at St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata, living with his only sister, Mallika, a crime journalist who pieces together stories from the city’s darker corners. A soothsayer Ho Chin Hua appears with a warning: stay away from love, for it will bring pain and peril. The warning lands in his heart as a rumor of fate, yet Abhijit chooses to ignore it, driven by a quiet hunger for connection.

On a rainy night in Calcutta, a chance encounter changes the course of his days. He spots Debjani, a trainee heart surgeon, stranded when her taxi breaks down, and offers her a ride. What begins as a simple act of kindness quickly blossoms into a tender romance. Debjani’s presence softens his pace, and he finds himself drawn toward a future he hadn’t allowed himself to imagine. Yet this joy collides with trouble at work: an infatuated student proposes to him, and when he gently rejects her, she retaliates. The fallout is swift—he is arrested and then ostracized by colleagues and the city’s quiet chorus of judgment.

Seeking a new start, the couple heads to the Andamans, hoping the sea and rain can wash away the echoes of the past. There they meet Subhro Sarkar, Subhro Sarkar, Debjani’s younger acquaintance from their high school days. Subhro runs a non-governmental organization in Port Blair and pursues music in his spare time, offering a different rhythm to life on the edge of the sea. As the three navigate this fragile new balance, Subhro and Debjani’s rekindled friendship becomes a focal point, and Abhijit finds himself grappling with jealousy over the unwavering attention Debjani receives from his old friend.

Tensions rise when Subhro dies in an accident, leaving Abhijit unsettled and haunted. The tragedy forces him to confront the prophecy that haunted him since the rain-soaked night in Kolkata. Is fate drawing him toward a predetermined end, or can love still carve out its own path? The question lingers as the narrative moves through rain-soaked streets, the sound of waves against Port Blair, and the quiet ache of choices made and unmade.

In the final act, the rain returns, heavy and rhythmic over the Andaman Islands, and the story circles back to its opening image. The ending frames a moment of reflection on love, destiny, and the fragility of second chances, leaving the audience with a lingering sense of the costs and comforts that come with choosing to love despite the warnings of the world.
