Dal Ho, a small‑town musician dreaming of rock fame, reluctantly plays trot in local clubs. When indie label head Jang offers a contract, Dal Ho signs, only to find it forces him to keep singing trot. Trapped, he masks his face onstage, and the secret shows become an overnight hit. With Jang’s help and a charismatic trot singer’s encouragement, Dal Ho eventually embraces the genre he once rejected.

Bong Dal-ho, Cha Tae-hyun, dreams of becoming a famous rock star, but in his small, rural town his heavy metal band is forced to play trot in tacky nightclubs. One day, Jang Joon, Jeong Seok-yong, a shabby record company executive, spots potential and promises to make him a star—Dal-ho realizes too late that he’s signed with a label that specializes in trot music. Jang believes Dal-ho’s talent lies in reflecting the melodramatic sentimentality of middle-aged Koreans, the genre’s target demographic, but Dal-ho insists that trot, with its gaudy costumes, hairstyles, and exaggerated stage movements, feels outdated and trite.
So on his televised debut as a trot singer, Dal-ho wears a mask out of shame. Yet that strange strategy works; his voice resonates with the nation and his album sales climb the charts. The mysterious masked face only fuels public curiosity, turning Dal-ho into a global talk of the town.
As Jang continues to train him, Dal-ho gradually begins to see the beauty of trot, thanks to Cha Seo-yeon, Lee So-yeon, a charismatic trot singer with a real passion for music but little talent. Dal-ho realizes that what matters is not which genre he chooses but whether he sings with all his heart. But he also undergoes an identity crisis, wondering if he would remain a star without the mask.
