Here Comes Carter 1936

Kent Carter, Ross Alexander, a sharp-witted publicist for a movie studio, bitterly resents Craig Reynolds for courting Linda Warren, Anne Nagel, the woman he loves. Their feud deepens when Kent takes over as host, replacing tipsy radio commentator Mel Winter on the air, with Hobart Cavanaugh portraying him. Kent refuses to accept the puff pieces churned out by press agents, choosing instead to broadcast the unvarnished facts about the movie colony and frequently aiming pointed remarks at Marchbanks. His fast delivery, candid commentary, and snappy comebacks push him into becoming a radio star.

Marchbanks answers the challenge by hiring the mobster Norman Willis to intimidate Kent, but the publicist keeps up his mercurial, no-holds-barred reporting. When Moran sends his henchmen to attack Kent under cover of darkness, Kent retaliates by publicly naming them from his hospital bed. Linda, furious, urges him to quit muck-raking and pursue a more respectable career. Verna Kennedy, Glenda Farrell, Kent’s loyal secretary, cannot tolerate Linda’s treatment and explains the reasons behind Kent’s relentless behavior. In the finale, Kent wins Linda back after proving that Rex and Moran are brothers as well as partners in crime.
