Hell Up In Harlem 1973

Having survived the assassination attempt at the end of Black Caesar, Tommy Gibbs latches onto a new mission: take down the corrupt New York District Attorney DiAngelo, who had once sought to jail Gibbs and his father, Papa Gibbs, in order to corner the illicit drug trade. He vows to drive drug pushers off the streets of Harlem while continuing to run his other illicit enterprises that fund his empire. Along the way, Gibbs falls for Sister Jennifer, a woman who works with Reverend Rufus, a former pimp who has found a religious calling and now preaches a hard-won, unorthodox gospel.

Tensions rise when Gibbs is warned by his enforcer, Zach, that his father ordered the death of Gibbs’ ex-wife, Helen. The revelation fractures the bond between father and son, prompting Gibbs and Jennifer to relocate to Los Angeles, leaving Papa Gibbs to supervise Harlem from the shadows. As the layers of deceit unfold, it becomes clear that Zach aims to seize control, the aid of DiAngelo helping to seal his coup.

The truth about Helen’s death comes into sharper focus: Zach himself killed her as part of a broader scheme to dominate the territory, with DiAngelo lending his power to the plan. Armed with this knowledge, Gibbs battles a string of hired killers and street-level rivals in Los Angeles, while Papa Gibbs collapses from a heart attack during a tense confrontation with Zach.

Aware that DiAngelo will tighten surveillance on New York’s airports and roads, Gibbs makes a bold move: he flies to Philadelphia first, then enters New York City on foot to wage a personal war against Zach and DiAngelo. The slow-burn conflict escalates into a direct showdown, testing loyalties, family, and the once-feared criminal kingpin’s resolve to reclaim Harlem on his own terms.
