Immediately following her harrowing encounter with Hatchet, Marybeth Dunston finds herself barely escaping from the relentless wrath of Victor Crowley. Seeking refuge, she encounters Jack Cracker, whose initial interest quickly dwindles as he dismisses her due to her last name and instructs her to seek the guidance of Reverend Zombie. However, Jack soon falls victim to Victor’s unyielding pursuit.

Now alone and desperate, Marybeth arrives at the doorstep of Reverend Zombie, a figure shrouded in mystery yet possessing profound knowledge of the dark forces that plague the swamp. After learning her last name, he reveals a devastating truth: her father, Sampson, was part of a group that ignited the tragic fire responsible for the death of Thomas Victor Crowley as a child, establishing a cycle of trauma that would haunt generations.

As Reverend Zombie narrates the disturbing history surrounding Victor’s birth, it becomes abundantly clear that the young boy’s life was cursed from the start. His mother, Shyann, enacted a fatal curse upon her husband’s illegitimate child with their nurse, Lena, just before her untimely demise.
