In a quiet village, a teenage girl is married off to an older man named Gofur Mia, Sohel Rana in the role, and life begins under the shifting shadows of family duty and survival. The household expands to include Gofur’s children from a previous marriage—Salim and Kalim—whom the stepmother loves, even as she eyes a future for her own children. A new life arrives with Raees, the son born into this marriage, a child whose mint condition of sound and voice becomes a quiet emblem of the fragile world around them. The tension in the home is palpable, balancing affection with the demands of crowded kin and scarce resources, all set against a village that will soon be drawn into a surging conflict beyond its hedges.
When Gofur dies, the balance shifts dramatically. Salim takes a wife, Ramiza Antora, and the home’s dynamics become strained as old loyalties collide with new ambitions. Ramiza’s arrival injects a fresh wind of change, while Kalim remains at the small house to care for his ailing mother. The pressure culminates when a Major captures Kalim, accusing him of relaying information to freedom fighters, and subjects him to brutal beatings. The tragedy unfolds with Kalim ultimately shot dead in front of his mother, a moment that hardens the village’s resolve and scars the family at the heart of the story.
As the conflict deepens, the war takes on a more sinister and personal shape. Ramiza’s Father Chashi Nazrul Islam steps in and takes Ramiza away, reshaping the family’s loyalties and the mother-daughter dynamics that have threaded through the household. In the same breath, the village watches two of Ramzan Ali’s sons go to war, hoping to reach a camp but instead facing torture and the looming threat of capture. One night, two fighters seek shelter in the home of an old lady, seeking refuge from the relentless pursuit that plagues the countryside. Pakistani forces close in, forcing a confrontation that tests every line of courage and family duty.
In the midst of this upheaval, a single act of patriotism—one borne of the heart’s hardest choices—comes to define the village’s memory. A mother, in a wrenching sacrifice, surrenders her longed-for child to the gun barrel of the Pakistan Army to shield the freedom fighters. The scene crystallizes the film’s meditation on loyalty, sacrifice, and the unbearable costs of conflict, painting a portrait of villagers whose lives are shaped by larger forces they cannot control, yet who must still decide what courage looks like in the face of overwhelming odds.
The cast adds to the tapestry of village life, with Champa contributing to the ensemble and enriching the world in which these events unfold, while the core characters endure, endure again, and illuminate the quiet, stubborn resilience of a community under siege.
