Grandma’s Wedding 2019

Grandma Martha Claudia Moreno has decided to marry her much younger gardener Julio, who has tended her Cuernavaca home for years, and their wedding becomes the thread that pulls a sprawling, intertwined family story into focus.

In parallel, Francisco and Natalia welcome a baby boy, and Francisco’s strict environmentalist views shape the child’s diet, hobbies, and daily routine—much to Gerardo’s frustration as he tries to connect with his future nephew. Gerardo is also anticipating a child with Diana, adding another layer of pressure and expectation to the growing clan.

Juan Pablo pursues online music and buys an engagement ring that Ana discovers before the ceremony, prompting her to bar him from attending. Andrea begins a relationship with Sebastian, while Daniel remains at odds with him, complicating alliances around the wedding. Sebastian, meanwhile, has published a book recounting the events of the first film, provoking plenty of reflection and digested memories among the relatives.

Grandma asks Ana to use her husband’s old VHS camcorder to capture the wedding as the in-laws come to town. Julio’s family arrives in a muddy truck from a poorer background, including Aurora, his mother, and his siblings Rafael, Julia, and Julieta. Aurora initially confuses Natalia with the woman Julio intends to marry and is unsettled when Julio clarifies that he is marrying Grandma. Grandma tries to smooth things over with stories of grand connections and cheerful appearances, but the truth bubbles to the surface under the surface of polite hospitality.

Tensions flare as the two families begin to meet and appear more unlike one another than they anticipated. The group orders takeout and pretends it’s their own cooking, deepening the rifts and testing loyalties.

Juan Pablo arrives unannounced and is scolded by Ana, while Sebastian reveals that Andrea is pregnant. Ana also watches as Juan Pablo and Julieta grow closer, which stirs jealousy, leading her to confront or restrain the budding closeness.

Aurora gives Grandma one last chance to prove her family’s innocence by showcasing a cooking display, but she has not cooked in decades and fails to win the day. The family departs in disgust, only to return later that day after realizing how exaggerated Sebastian’s storytelling sounds.

Ana videocalls Andrea, who emphasizes her true love for Sebastian. Gerardo tries to plant an interest in classical music for his unborn child, while Julia and Daniel recognize a shared passion for Cruz Azul, the same football team, and they share a kiss and intimate moment. Rafael and Sebastian drink together, with Sebastian encouraging Rafael to be more open about his thoughts. Juan Pablo teaches Julieta a guitar song but rejects her romantic advances. Meanwhile, Aurora stays up all night to tailor a hand‑me‑down wedding dress so it fits Grandma just right.

On the wedding day, Ana and Julieta reconcile. Rafael and Sebastian stumble upon Daniel and Julia in an undressed moment, and Rafael’s anger erupts as he chases Daniel around the house with a gun in hand. Just as Grandma and Julio exchange their vows, Daniel races into the ceremony; Rafael’s outburst escalates, and a shooting occurs. Sebastian steps in and takes the bullet for Daniel, who is not seriously injured, and the two men reconcile in the hospital.

The very next day, the wedding goes forward as planned, with the family somehow mending fences and finding joy together. Andrea returns uninvited, but when Ana proposes to Juan Pablo with a song she hastily prepares, he accepts. Aurora and Grandma raise their glasses to a tentative, renewed understanding between their families.

In a mid-credits moment, Julio gives Grandma a foot massage and then playfully strips for her, a small gesture that hints at the continued, imperfect, affectionate humor weaving through the household.
