In the desolate reaches of a remote Siberian tundra, Glago — a lone Russian soldier — keeps watch at a weathered outpost. His days unfold in quiet ritual: he mans the post, scans the horizon through binoculars, and endures candlelit meals that feel as dull as the endless white landscape around him. The wind whistles, snow muffles sound, and the routine settles into a slow, almost meditative pace that leaves little room for surprise.

That calm is broken by a strange, almost primordial sound from above. A colossal, black oval object descends and lands in front of the outpost, a doorway opening to reveal a mass of translucent-green orbs that coil and reform in shifting shapes. Panicked but resolute, the soldier bursts outside with his rifle ready, only to be met by a swarm of aliens that surge toward the outpost. The beings cluster at its base, then lift the structure with surprising ease and roll it away, Glago still inside, as the landscape seems to tilt with the unintended ride.

The outpost is deposited at a new location a short distance away, and Glago, shaking with mixture of fear and resolve, steps outside to take aim at one of the blobs. Before a shot can fire, a meteor tears from the sky and crashes into the very spot where his post once stood, turning the ground into a smoking crater. Shock gives way to awe as a single alien blob parts from the group and approaches him. It becomes clear the aliens were not hostile; they were moving the outpost to protect him from the meteor’s path and to keep him safe.

The revelation of their intent fills Glago with gratitude. In a gesture that blends wonder with respect, he removes his traditional cossack hat and offers it to the alien collective. The mass—credited by the animators as “Lars”—returns to its ship and climbs back into space, leaving Glago alone with the sparkling snow and a quiet, buoyant joy born from an improbable rescue.

As the ship disappears, the world seems to settle back into the white hush, but Glago’s experience lingers, reshaping his sense of danger, mercy, and wonder in the cold vastness. The short becomes a small, intimate tale of how an ordinary life can be touched by the unexplainable, turning fear into a remembered miracle and a lonely vigil into a dance of gratitude.
