Gautam [Sachin Pilgaonkar] and Phalgun [Ashok Saraf], lifelong friends, share a bungalow with their old ally Shrikant Dalvi. They are in urgent need of a huge sum of money: Gautam works as a bar waiter and must pay for the leg surgery of his younger brother Suhas, while Phalgun, a warehouse clerk, is drowning in debts he cannot clear by honest means. With no legitimate path to fast money, the pair hatches a risky plan to kidnap Kalpana [Varsha Usgaonkar] Korde, the daughter of a wealthy industrialist, hoping the ransom will set their troubles right. Kalpana is no ordinary hostage; she proves to be a formidable presence, quickly dominating Gautam and Phalgun and even demanding a cut of the ransom for herself.
The criminals underestimate Kalpana’s shrewdness. When her father, Dadasaheb Korde, refuses to pay and dispatches Inspector Phutane and crime lord Ganu Pailwan to investigate, Kalpana’s behavior only grows more calculating. She plays along with the scheme, testing the men’s resolve and throwing in a personal edge that complicates their plan. The tension intensifies when Mama arrives from Dubai—Shrikant’s uncle and the bungalow’s owner—and the inspector’s pursuit tightens the net around the trio. In a twist to keep control of the situation, Kalpana pretends to be Gautam’s wife in front of Mama and, at the same time, acts as Phalgun’s wife to the inspector, all to secure her own stake in the deal and maintain the illusion of compliance.
As the plot thickens, Gautam receives a letter from Shrikant announcing job opportunities in Delhi, a development that fills him and Phalgun with renewed hope. They momentarily set aside Kalpana’s presence, thinking she is now expendable and free to return home, yet Kalpana’s true feelings soon surface: she confesses her affection for Gautam, and he replies in kind. Phalgun, meanwhile, heads back to his wife, Ashwini [Charusheela Sabale], reinforcing the personal stakes behind their criminal scheme. Kalpana resolves to see the plan through and even helps escort the group to the railway station, where danger lurks as Ganu Pailwan and his henchmen close in.
The tension culminates when Kalpana’s car is tracked and Gautam and Phalgun are captured and presented as culprits to her father. In a moment of truth, Kalpana fabricates a story that the two had rescued her from the people who actually abducted her, expressing a genuine desire to marry Gautam. Yet Gautam chooses honesty over deception and comes clean to Kalpana’s father, earning forgiveness and a blessing for their union by illustrating his courage and integrity. The elder Korde is moved by Gautam’s honesty and grants his blessing, recognizing that the young man’s moral fiber outweighs the perilous beginning of their relationship. In a final, humane twist, Kalpana reveals that she had already paid for Suhas’s leg surgery, sealing her commitment to the man she loves and to the family she chose to stand with, even before any legal resolution came to pass.
