Eliseo Montalbán, a musical prodigy, grows out of a childhood marked by a deeply traumatic event: he witnesses the horrifying death of his sister on a piano, an incident that coincides with the accidental creation of a piece of music he believes carries a deadly curse. This double blow—trauma and the eerie birth of a tune—shapes his mind into something brilliant yet unsettled, as Eliseo becomes obsessively devoted to the ominous piece that haunts him.

As he matures, Eliseo composes a masterful Rhapsody drawn from that haunting music, a work born of pain and exceptional talent. The piece draws him into a dangerous proximity to tragedy, culminating in the death of his beloved pianist, Georgina at the moment she begins to perform it in a packed Municipal Theater in Santiago. The abrupt loss is searing, and the event casts a long shadow over Eliseo, fueling the sense that the music itself bears a fatal power that can claim lives.

Gripped by guilt and fear, Eliseo’s mental anguish grows so intense that his father decides he must be confined to an asylum, effectively ending his public career and pushing him into a long period of obscurity. After a period of seclusion, Eliseo manages to escape the asylum and withdraws further from society, his world narrowed to the isolation that his genius and torment demand. Into this quiet, another strand of the story enters: Ricardo Coppa, who, with a group of musicians, sets out to retrieve Montalbán’s cursed composition, intent on claiming the piece for themselves without fully grasping the peril at stake.

The film’s center remains the tension between artistic genius and the darkness it can ignite. The pursuit of the music becomes a perilous quest that tests loyalties and exposes the sharp edge where ambition meets danger. In this world, every note carries weight, and the line between creation and destruction feels perilously thin. As the narrative unfolds, it asks whether brilliance justifies the costs it exacts, and whether a mortal can ever truly own a work that seems to belong to a fate beyond ordinary comprehension.
