Friend or Foe 1982

During the Second World War, two young boys, John Holmes and Mark Luxford, are evacuated from London to the countryside by train. They arrive in a quiet, unfamiliar village and are taken in by a kindly dairy farmer, Ann Mitchell, who offers them warmth and shelter as they begin to adjust to rural life. In the woods surrounding the village, the boys encounter two German airmen who survived the crash. One of the airmen saves one of the boys from drowning in the pond, and both airmen can speak English, which helps them communicate a wary but peaceful message: they ask the boys not to reveal what they’ve seen. This moment triggers a crisis of conscience for the boys as they weigh obedience against mercy, fear against compassion.
