Lucky Boone, Fred Ward, operates a for-charter sightseeing boat in the Florida Keys and keeps company with a rough, salty crowd of gamblers and drinkers. One day, a sharp, college-educated young man named Mac, Daniel H. Jenkins, arrives at the dock and proves himself at poker, turning a casual game into a business proposition. The two men strike a deal and decide to share Lucky’s boat, the famed The White Witch, launching a partnership that blends luck, risk, and a shared appetite for bigger horizons.

Carlos Jayne, Raúl Juliá, a political prisoner who has landed in Miami after years of Castro’s Cuba, crosses paths with Lucky and Mac and convinces them to ferry him back to Cuba aboard the White Witch. A former DC-3 pilot from the Bay of Pigs invasion, Carlos has two reasons to return: a long-lost love Ilka Tanya Payán whom he believes still waits for him, and a crate of gold coins he parachuted from the DC-3 just before he bailed out in 1961. The trio’s plan hinges on a delicate balance of trust, courage, and timing as they edge closer to the island’s volatile shores.

Their voyage leads them into Cuba itself, where they collide with a band of rebels and face a tense, dangerous landscape. The group encounters a formidable foe in the rebel ranks led by the notorious El Gato Negro, portrayed by Antonio Fargas, and they must navigate a web of loyalties, danger, and shifting motives as they push toward a high-stakes crossing that tests every member of the crew. The story unfolds with a mix of grit, wit, and the lure of a potentially transformative return to a homeland that feels just out of reach.
