Bobby Logan [Kris Kristofferson] and Ernie Wyatt [Treat Williams] are Border Patrol agents patrolling a remote stretch of the Texas desert when they stumble upon a discovery buried in the sand that seems frozen in time. A decades-old Jeep sits half-buried, and when they dig it out, they uncover a skeletal passenger slumped in the driver’s seat, a toolbox stuffed with a shocking stash of $800,000 in unused 10- and 20-dollar bills, and a hunting case holding a scoped sniper rifle with matching ammunition. The skeleton is accompanied by a wallet bearing the driver’s license of Michael J. Curtis from San Antonio, plus a slip of paper with two phone numbers.
