The film begins with the inspiring tune, “Flashdance… What a Feeling,” which serves as a recurring motif throughout the story. We are introduced to 18-year-old Alexandra ‘Alex’ Owens, portrayed by Jennifer Beals, as she rides her bicycle through the vibrant streets of Pittsburgh on her way to her job as a welder at a local steel mill.
By night, Alex transforms into a dazzling dancer at Mawby’s Bar, where the atmosphere is filled with go-go dancing. One night, Nick Hurley, one of the steel mill’s bosses, makes a notable appearance at the bar, captivated by Alex’s performance set to “He’s a Dream.” Intrigued, he learns from his friend that she is one of his employees at the mill.
