Gabriela Diaz, feeling undervalued at her San Francisco design firm, faces an unexpected setback when the company goes under, leaving her without a job right when she is ending a tumultuous relationship with her flaky boyfriend, Dean. After enduring several weeks of fruitless job applications, a night of excessive wine leads her to enter an online contest offering a chance to “Win an Inn” in the picturesque New Zealand countryside. To her surprise, she wins.
Upon her arrival, she finds herself at the forlorn Bellbird Valley Farm, a place that needs much more than a little TLC, featuring a dilapidated facade, quirky residents like a goat roaming over the floorboards, and a nosy neighbor who seems fixated on the property. Gabriela learns that Charlotte, the proprietor of the town’s only bed & breakfast, sheds light on the previous owner’s great-grandson who sought to rid himself of the estate by entering her in the contest.
Her first day brings a challenge when plumbing issues arise in the kitchen. A trip to town leads her to Norm at the local hardware store, where she is advised to contact Jake. Having clashed with him in the past, Gabriela quickly dismisses this suggestion. Determined to revive the inn, she opts for an eco-friendly renovation approach.
An invitation from Charlotte for tea soon reveals that she has her own ulterior motives, hoping to dominate the inn scene in town by acquiring Gabriela’s new acquisition. Despite this, Gabriela finds companionship with the kind townsfolk, including the café owners and Shelly, and develops a deepening connection with Jake, the local restoration aficionado who has been through his own tragic loss.
As the duo embarks on their restoration journey, their camaraderie blossoms into something more, highlighted by an unexpected kiss. However, things take a turn when Gabriela considers accepting a job offer, leaving Jake feeling rejected and heartbroken. Once renovations come to fruition, Gabriela finds herself torn, forming a bond with the inn and her new community, including Jake, who makes it harder to leave.
Just when she begins voicing her uncertainties to Jake, Dean makes a surprising entrance after he receives a text from Charlotte. His new proposal for a financial investment in the inn raises the stakes, complicating things for Gabriela and threatening her new life.
During an Open House, they showcase the inn’s eco-friendly features and details about their collaborative project which both see as a labor of love. However, complications ensue when Dean pressures Gabriela to sell the inn, leading Jake to walk away. In a twist of fate, a fire at Charlotte’s B&B necessitates Jake’s bravery as a volunteer firefighter, which nearly costs him his life.
Caught between her past and the unfolding romance with Jake, Gabriela ultimately chooses to abandon her San Francisco lifestyle to forge a future running the inn alongside him. The film concludes with a breathtaking aerial view of the revitalized Bellbird Valley Farm, encapsulating their journey of love and transformation.
