The premise of Falling Before Fireworks without spoilers.
Si Qing works at a loan bank, chasing a car, a house and money. To recover a bad loan she meets traditional craftsman Jing Chen, and their mutual dislike quickly turns into a tangled rivalry. On the winter solstice, isolated and on the verge of collapse, she mistakingly interprets Jing Chen’s bowl of sweet‑wine eggs—a customary treat—as a warm birthday gesture and impulsively proposes marriage. Jing Chen accepts, but the union proves only the beginning of a fraught, unconventional partnership.
