When his father dies, Terry (Gary Sinese) returns to the house where he grew up, planning to stay long enough to clean and settle the estate. A strange force, however, keeps him there longer than planned. Successful California attorney Terry McQuinn, Gary Sinise, looks back on his Maine childhood. He is the son of a widowed caretaker who is too engrossed in his work to spend much time with his son, possibly out of incurable grief following the early death of Terry’s mother. When Terry’s father dies, he returns to Maine to take care of and settle his father’s small estate.
While there, Katherine Wentworth, Joely Richardson, a New York social worker, asks Terry to re-open a house on the estate that her parents had owned, hoping to show it to her adopted, blind daughter, Olivia Jordy Benattar.
